Support for their own children

AT APIS parent involvement is greatly valued. At the Kindergarten, parent-teacher contact happens every day when children are dropped off in the morning or collected at the end of the school day as well as on formal occasions such as the Student-led Conferences and Open House meetings while on the Main Boarding Campus parents are regularly invited to share their child’s successes, whether it be to attend an assembly or to support sports teams.

Easy access to Suan Bua Resort and Spa, which adjoins the school, and special rates for parents staying there, means that those whose children board can stay very near the school should they wish to visit Chiangmai during the school term.

Parents are welcome to contact any of their children’s teachers at any time.

Support for each other

In 2006, a Parent Support Group was initiated. This now meets every month and is a forum where the different nationalities in the school are represented. They discuss day to day issues and try to make sure that needs and concerns are understood.

Support for the School

On numerous occasions, parents find ways in which they can support the educational program. Both campuses have parent help in their library and parents are frequent visitors to classrooms on the Kindergarten campus.

Parents are a vital support for the school in the accreditation process and are represented in a number of planning committees at the school. Parent representatives are always invited to meet with Visiting Teams from WASC, IBOPYP and Sor Mor Sor and they contribute to the Strategic Plan.

Parents are key to the success of special events in the school calendar – most notably our annual International Day.

Frequently, discussion started at the Parent Support Group informs the agenda of the quarterly meeting between parents and the Headmaster. It also helps the school to identify areas in which parents look for greater understanding of and information-sharing about school policy and practice.

It helps parents to look beyond the school and beyond their own community to learn what is done in good schools around the world and to be well-informed about educational issues. To help in this area, workshops are arranged quarterly and it is hoped that English classes for those who want them may become a regular feature of the program.

All parents are members of the Parent Support Group and are welcome to attend meetings.
